Re: Who are the most popular creators you can't stand?

G. R. R. Martin. I do not like ASoIaF and I do not like GoT. I wish people would stop recommending me his stuff just because I like fantasy. No I don't want to read about the gory depiction of murdered woman.

You have every right to decline a recommendation for any reason.

But:

the gory depiction of murdered woman

Uh, what? Are we talking about the same author? GRRM is equal opportunity death and gore, and it's not like it's the only thing he writes about. If it were, the books would have ended three novels ago.

That was just one of my issues with the stuff he writes about. Didn’t want to mention all the sexual abuse his books mention because people get antsy about rape. Also I know it’s “equal opportunity murder”, but this shit doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Can you really not see why some people would have a knee jerk reaction to a specific type of person being murdered over others? I see and hear about murdered women all the time. I don’t want to read about that shit either. Same with seeing black people, Latino people, and LGBT people get murdered. I don’t give a rat’s ass if it’s equal opportunity in his books. It’s not equal opportunity IRL and that affects my reactions.

People give me the same tired excuse every time too. “It’s not all he writes about!” Except there’s enough of it to turn me off.
