I actually like having the option to listen to a fanmix inspired by a particular fic. I rarely actually listen to the fanmix, because I can't read and listen to music at the same time, but I like having the option.

However, there's definitely a difference between a fic that's designed around musical tracks, and a fic that is complete unto itself but if you happened to want it, there's a fanmix you could check out.

And yeah, it is really, really hard to write a good songfic. Some might say impossible.

That said, just the other day I read a (fairly highbrow) songfic, and I found two new songs I like. The fic itself was only so-so, but it was 100% worth it for the songs alone. \o/
