157. Okay, I was with you (in terms of understanding your secret, not agreeing with you) until the last line, and then I was just confused. First of all, not every anime/manga fan has to learn Japanese -- a lot of them don't. Second, there's Japanese bandom/RPS too. Do you not get that because it involves another language, or do you get it because it's real people? Third, the "I don't want to have to learn another language" thing wouldn't apply to fandoms like, say, Harry Potter, which isn't RPS either.

160. Because not wanting to do something that's illegal totally makes you a whiny loser.

161. How is it hypocritical to like one female President with red hair and glasses and dislike another one? They're completely different people in completely different situations. You aren't obligated to like Palin (or dislike Roslin) because of any superficial similarity between the two.

Roslin and Palin are both religious nuts who make decisions guided by and grounded in their faiths.


Roslin is still infinitely cooler than Palin, though.

Ah, good point. Even so, though, I don't think it's hypocrisy unless you hate Palin for being religious. Which maybe the OP does, I don't know. ... I don't know where I'm going with this; never mind.

Yeah - that's the thing, we don't have to live under Roslin's leadership, airlocking and (debatably necessary but still politico-religiously motivated) abortion ban - and we can look at her decisions and still like her character.

Palin, though, is a real life nut. Whose running mate was around at the end of the Mesozoic Era. Who might at some point in inherit the presidency.* That we may have to live with - plenty of reason to deplore her.



*which, Roslin inherited her presidency too, so ... another crazy coincidence?

Right, that's true. Roslin's decisions don't affect our lives, so we have more tolerance when she does things we don't agree with. Man, I feel stupid now for my knee-jerk "they're nothing alike!!!!1!11" reaction, when in fact they really are -- it's just that, well, one's a character and one's a real person and so they can't be judged by the same standards.
