Such moral outrage!

I hate it when people are shallow enough to have to resort to shameless sexual self-fulfillment just to get themselves through responsibilities and obligations in life. It disgusts me.

Ew, people...think about sex when they're supposed to be thinking about other things? Dear lord, what's WRONG with these perverts? Who DOES that?!

...Of course, this naturally follows from you apparently finding it "sad" that some people can't pay attention to everything you deem worthy of paying attention to. I'm sure everybody this applies to is just broken up about it.

Personally, I need a lot of mental stimulation to get my sluggish brain working so I can focus/recall/brane in general. The end result being that running the mental adult theatre in the background frequently helps me ROCK whatever I'm doing. e.g. Completing four-hour study blocks (as opposed to struggling just to focus on the textbook for twenty minutes at a time), or managing an essentially flawless lunch/dinner hour at the restaurant I work at (as opposed to one plagued by my memory lapses and space-outs).

I'd feel bad for using sex to get through my responsibilities and obligations, except I really prefer my customers happy and my calculus homework done. So I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I don't have the mental fortitude to do things the proper way.

P.S. Erm, if the liberal arts have historical figures to slash...well, some of said historical figures were scientists and mathmaticians. Who would need to literally slash numbers? Historical geek!sex FTW!

And, dude. If there isn't Newton/Leibniz out there? There damn well should be.

some people can't pay attention to everything you deem worthy of paying attention to.

So now you're basically implying that history is unimportant and it's shouldn't be mandatory to know the history of your own country. Europeans have one way over on Americans in this regard.

Ew, people...think about sex when they're supposed to be thinking about other things? Dear lord, what's WRONG with these perverts? Who DOES that?!

It has nothing to do with morals, it's just sad for anyone to constantly obsess about ANYTHING. Not to mention that you should have the self-control to think about something else once in awhile.

So now you're basically implying that history is unimportant and it's shouldn't be mandatory to know the history of your own country.

Most people should have a general mental sketch, yes, and know major/influential events. Although the reality is that most don't; and while I'm guessing you could build an argument for detrimental effects over time to a society that doesn't know its own history, I don't think most find that their lack of clue harms them on a short-term basis.

But I'm inclined to believe that comment was more personal butthurt over someone, "defiling," your favourite subject than it was over how important it may be to know your own history. Because if THAT was the primary concern, I don't think you'd object so much to the manner in which she acquired the knowledge. I certainly know I smiled when I got to that secret, as did many here, since we all probably recognize finding that, "hook," of personal interest in a subject (whether that hook is in any way sexual or not).

Me, I was thinking of how I actually got into ninth grade social studies by obsessing over what a tool Marx really was, and how his character may have influenced his work; that's what the secret made me think of. I find it interesting that YOUR reaction was to feel that the way in which she connected to the material was somehow wrong.

Not to mention that you should have the self-control to think about something else once in awhile.

(Well, this was ridiculous from the outset, where you assumed from one fandom secret that someone made about using slash to get through a subject she finds boring that she is - to quote from lower down the thread - "completely driven by sex." Somehow, I very much doubt that assumption is true.

But, well, even it was...)

So you think people, "should," think about "something else once in awhile." Assuming it harms no one: why? That's a very interesting, "should." Why do you care what anyone privately thinks about so long as they're doing what they're supposed to?

Seems to me that's very much a, "should," that's morally based.
