I think, to the extent that you acknowledge that media does sometimes normalize bad things, then the argument mostly becomes about the annoying and toxic behavior of the antis, more than the underlying point. And then, when you're making that argument, the annoying and toxic behavior of the antis absolutely sucks, I'm not disagreeing with you there. But a lot of that toxicity isn't really distinct to antis - the reality is that a lot of internet discourse is really toxic and awful and brutal, regardless of what the argument is actually about. So that's where I come from, I guess.

The point we made a mistake in ceding isn’t that shippers are potentially abusers. It’s that antis aren’t. We should always question whether these adults who try to cut off kids from talking to any other adults, and position themselves as the only “safe” adults who won’t abuse kids, really have kids’ best interests in mind.
