Re: Whatcha doing today, FS?

Been laying in the hotel bed all day with the lights off. Still have a major migraine. If it isn't gone by Monday will need to find a doctor. If it isn't gone tomorrow, will have to skip tomorrow's activities. Which is frustrating because tomorrow we are going to a nearby village to learn about women in indigenous cultures, and I really wanted to do that.

But I'm in so much pain right now. Can't handle turning the light on, much less sunlight. I've got my computer screen turned down as low as it will go before off. I've got a bag of ice on my head. The staff have been amazingly nice and keep supplying me with the ice I ask for.

I have not had a migraine like this in years.

If you don't mind, can I ask a couple of questions about migraines? I don't know anyone that suffers them and I think I just had one but I'm not sure, and I just kinda want to... settle my nerves that nothing is super duper wrong.

Sure. Honestly I'm kind of nervous about this right now. Never really had one exactly like this. Similar, but not this bad, and usually meds help. But I get them a lot and take regular meds for them. I actually know a fair bit about the differences between different types of headaches since I happen to get 3 out of the 4 main kinds.

Basically I was in a spa for a little while, and I thought that I was keeping hydrated well enough but maybe not? So it might have been that, but I've been dehydrated before and it didn't feel like this.

I started getting a sharp, pounding headache first on one side of my head sort of in the temple and moving back, then it looped around to the other side and across my forehead so I had this like... horseshoe of pain around my head lmao. I laid down, and made sure it was as dark as I could possibly get it; I tried a face mask to darken it more but even that much pressure hurt? I got super nauseous and kind of dizzy too, so I had trouble drinking water/gatorade like my wife was trying to get me to do.

It lasted a good like... 4-5 hours? And then I just went to bed 'cause I was totally wrung out. I was fine the next morning.

Does that sound like a migraine to you? I didn't get any auras or anything, and I'm not sure if I was light or sound-sensitive because I just defaulted to getting into the dark and quiet anyway. :/

Yup. Migraine's can be on one side or both sides. They are usually that sort of pounding pain. I usually get mine on my right temple and forehead. Light sensitivity and sound sensitivity and nausea are all very common but not required.

Basically, yes, classic migraine.

I only occasionally get auras. Not everyone gets them.

Basically, if it is in your temple/forehead and pounding, it is probably a migraine or maybe cluster. If it is in the back of your neck and radiating from there, then tension. In your whole face around your nose and eyes and pain is less when you press on it, then sinus.

Good to know, ugh. What a bad time! I've always had sympathy for people who have migraines often, now I can't even imagine it.

Thank you, I feel a little better now. I hope you get better soon!

Glad you are feeling a little better. And thanks. Just saw a very nice doctor lady who gave me a shot and a prescription, so we shall see.

Oh no, I'm sorry. Migraines are a nightmare anyway but dealing with them when you're away from home must be even worse. :( I hope it eases and you manage to get some sleep soon love. <3

I'm currently having migraines very frequently because the weather/temperature keeps fluctuating like crazy where I live and that's one of my main triggers so I feel you. Hope it gets better for you soon!

I’m sorry you’re in pain and it’s fucking with your trip; hope you feel better soon. I’ve been getting lots of nasty headaches lately, and it’s frustrating as hell to want to get stuff done but feel incapable of doing much more than feel like shit.
