Who here thinks third time will be the charm for Kylo's supposed redemption arc?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's an ongoing story, they're not going to resolve the storyline in the middle.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, absolutely, but it's kind of jarring for me to have seen him outright throw redemption away twice already. Like, it would have been better to NOT have offered at all until closer to when he's ready, if that makes sense?

I think that makes it more interesting, actually. Because it makes it even harder and if he does get redeemed he'll have to do even more to earn it. I hope he doesn't get redeemed. But I actually like that they had him reject a couple opportunities because that's not something usually done in this type of story. I like seeing new things.

It's the same thing that happened with Zuko. (I was SO SURE he would join the Gang at the end of Book 2. lol.)

I think Kylo probably will be saved, but it will probably have more to do with Mark Hammill's super-powered snark than Rey's force vagina.

My bet is:

1. Hux gets his dream gun and stabs Kylo in the back.
2. Kylo realizes that it's all gone wrong, and dies saving the galaxy.
3. Luke gets the last word.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it a knife-gun?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-27 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, a knife gun with settings from "dark jedi" to "kill all resistance!"

Or more plausibly, Hux arranges for Kylo to conveniently be the handwavium chamber of the unobtanium device just as he orders the destruction of a planet, and Kylo uses his force powers to save everyone at the cost of his own life.

I hope that doesn't happen. But considering how cliche and how much of a repeat of ANH TFA was, I can totally see that happening.

Kylo uses the force to reverse the polarity on the power couplings causing a chain reaction ...

I am generally in favour of redemption arcs, but I was in love with Han Solo for nearly forty years. Fuck Kylo Ren, I hope he gets stung by bees.

Han’s not my favorite Star Wars character by a long shot, but part of me thinks Kylo fans must have really fucked up family dynamics—and my parents and their parents and their relationships with me and each other was ott nuts. If Han had been abusive rather than an absentee parent I could maybe see Kylo’s killing him as justified or at least understandable, but his fans sympathizing with him and saying his emotional turmoil excused his killing Han creeped me the hell out.

I think TLJ really fucked up the “Snoke mind control” thing; even one flashback of toddler Ben with Snoke whispering in his head would’ve made him seem less irredeemable.

AYRT-- I get very salty when Kylo fans share headcanons of Han being an abusive parent. Fuck all y'all. Although I keep quiet, because I know my perspective is based on being old as hell and a Han fan for a very long time. No WAY I am going to favour a new character over him unless I see reasons onscreen. And even then I will probably make excuses.
