I love how well Chewie's body language expresses "Seriously, you two? Do you know how much complaining I'll have to put up with because of this?"

> telegraphing this pairing pretty strongly

Like when Rey literally slammed the door in his face?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe because of what happened in the first 150 minutes?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that I disagree with you, but the whole "romance that begins with two people hating one another" is a very well worn cliche.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, sure, but "hating each other for petty perceived differences or slights" (a la Pride and Prejudice, for example) is worlds apart from the kind of hate that comes from one side being responsible for torture and mass murder, you know?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Nayrt but it looks like an exaggeration of a very clichéd trope. But still very much that trope.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, villain-hero relationship tropes are very different from miscommunication tropes. They can absolutely overlap, but they're not the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
... is this not the same franchise who had Anakin and Padma in a doomed relationship that ended in attempted murder?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
But that's not the same storyline AYRT was talking about at all

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Story ENDING with murder and horror is really fucking different from story STARTING with it...

*Padmé

Clearly there's something going on between them but I think it's going to be pretty hard to justify a happy ending after the whole "explicitly choosing to be an evil emperor instead of joining the light side and making out" thing Kylo pulled

Yeah. I think the movie was hinting at the idea of it but I very strongly doubt any actual relationship will happen.

I do think Kylo will be redeemed though, just because it's Star Wars, but I could certainly be wrong on that too. (I also think he'll die. Probably not in Rey's arms though it would make a good fanart.)

Yeah, regardless of my feelings towards the ship I honestly I felt like their endgame was repeatedly whacked over my head like an anvil, and I was surprised to come online and find that it was a question mark. Star Wars is a pretty simple series, it does subvert some tropes but it follows a generally traditional narrative. They are clearly moving towards a redemption arc and his and Rey's interactions in TLJ were too soaked in romance tropes to be accidental. It's not a dead cert for a happily-ever-after, but it's Star Wars so I'm not going to rule it out.

I didn't get romance telegraphed in TLJ at all. I got a forced mental bond created by Snoke, some sympathy on Rey's part and intrigue and fascination on Kylo's part. I didn't see any romance or physical attraction.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-28 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't ship it but the physical attraction, at least, felt really blatant

Okay. It wasn't for me.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I also don't ship it, and yes, I agree.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Rian Johnson said their hand touch was the closest thing to a sex scene that Star Wars could have

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He's so full of shit I can't even.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Stay mad

(Anonymous) 2019-04-29 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wha?
