I find it inconsistent to hate games where you build relationships but praise games where mass murder or genocide are key mechanics.

The argument is usually that simulating human relationships as a game mechanic is ethically problematic but simulating hundreds or millions of violent deaths isn't.

The only time I've seen anyone say that in anything resembling seriousness is the Dream Daddy devs once they got fed up with the endless whining about not every route having a happy ending.

Unless you're complaining about people being put off by rape-heavy VNs, in which case it isn't the simulating of human relationships that's the problem.
