Something I think about a lot is that the adoption of the printing press in Europe was a key factor in causing centuries of social upheaval and bitter religious warfare

I dunno about that, I think addiction to it is way understated and the ability to spread propaganda is really overlooked.

Unfortunately, this is true in a lot of cases. It's good people have found a place to rant, but... that seems to be the only thing they care about. They don't care about tact, or getting stuck in an echo chamber, or spreading ugliness as far as they can, or dragging private matters into public and being all about drama.

It's a great networking tool, but too many think it's just a place to dump any old thing you're thinking/doing/saying at the moment.

I think it depends on the place. In the US yes. But in more repressive cultures I think it has been uses for resistance a lot and has been pretty important.

Some harm comes from it, but it also gets blamed for things it's not responsible for, or only partly responsible for.

I mean, if you followed those comms, sure. I stayed away from the wanky, drama-filled comms. Fandom was great.

Spock/McCoy is a way more interesting ship than Spock/Kirk.

And the fact that the K/S-shippers are creaming themselves over that one line in the Discovery season finale is annoying because it works way better for Spock/McCoy than Spock/Kirk.

Because I was late yesterday:

Everyone can get spend their money on the merch they like, sure.
But I silently judge people who get Dakimaruas.
I just think those things are cringey to the max and just can't fathom why anyone would spend money on them (and not look like a borderline creep or weirdo along the way).

Most nerd merchandise is cheap and ugly looking and I think less of people who buy it. I know it has your favorite character on it, but please have some standards.

Lately there's tension/weirdness between my RPF ship, and it makes me seriously wonder if one of them made a move on the other, and he rejected him. He's always been sort of evasive when it comes to his sexuality, and the other one has gotten weirdly no homo-y lately when he never was before. I realize there's probably another explanation, but that one has definitely crossed my mind several times.

Obviously I am putting way too much thought into the relationship of two people I will never meet and I sound like a crazy person.

I find it inconsistent to hate games where you build relationships but praise games where mass murder or genocide are key mechanics.

I know everyone thinks it’s Palpatine, but my first thought upon hearing the maniacal laugh in the new Star Wars trailer was “it’s the Joker!” My second thought was “oh, shit.” And my third thought was “now I’m gonna be disappointed when I see the movie and evil zombie Luke doesn’t rise from the dead.”

Endgame

Infinity War started the process, but Endgame has seemingly killed any interest I have in the MCU. On the one hand, I was in deep with fandom obsession and it's probably best to be cut off. But on the other hand, I am so angry to lose something that was at one point so fun.

I think most people who think Daenerys is the ultimate enemy don't actually think so for plot reasons or because they actually see solid signs this will happen. I think they just think that because they hate her guts and don't want anything good to happen for her. Hell, they won't even acknowledge how frustrating it must be in her position, it's just "oh she's an obviously evil bitch for daring to be disappointed by reality after all her hard work, hope she dies soon and spectacularly because Tyrion/Jon/anyone else should be on the throne"
