I get it. Bioshock and its related games wasn't your cuppa. I feel you. I, too, have had a few unpopular opinions that have caused friction among my nearest and dearest (Firefly sucks, y'all!)

One thing confuses me,though: "Hard on for Jesus worship"?

I mean, one thing that's pretty consistent through all three of the main games and related DLCs is that religion is just another way to control people and get them to do shitty things. And the most dangerous people of all are the true believers because they can justify all that shit.

So, yeah. I thiiiiink you may have seriously misread something if you thought Bioshock in any of its forms was pushing Christianity.

The only message I got out of it was that one person's utopia is almost sure to be hell for a whole lot of people. Also, utopia is doomed to devolve into a shitshow because (to paraphrase Frank Fontaine) even in utopia not everyone can be a king or queen. Someone still has to clean the toilets. And the ones stuck cleaning the toilets are eventually going to get sick of being shit on.

Yeah, I was gonna say, did OP play Infinite? Because Infinite was pretty much one big long extended metaphor for why religion is bad.

Bioshock Infinite was why white-Christian-nationalism is bad.

Bioshock 2 had "how religion can be twisted to control people" and it's bad.

Even Bioshock 1 had Frank Fontaine using religion to make inroads with the disaffected by running their bibles and injecting more poison into an already poisonous system.

Bioshock Infinite is more in your face about it, but all three were firmly on the side that both enforcing a religious (or a-religious in the case of Bioshock 1) is a bad thing since it gives room for the grifters.

Re the Jesus worship, it's possible the OP was referencing how commonplace it became in Rapture for religious materials to be demanded on the black market. It could be interpreted as "you may try to create an areligious utopia, but all humans need religion and deep down they know it".

I mean, I thought it was pretty obvious in Bioshock 1 that religion was being used by the downtrodden in Rapture as a kind of comfort in what were hella harsh conditions. Plus, it seems like a shit-ton of Splicers had the whole religious mania thing going on, which was way more creepy than positive.

But I suppose if I squint I could see it if you're only talking about Bioshock 1.

Once you get beyond Bioshock 1 and get into the sequels and their DLCs, there's just *no way* you could say religion was painted in anything that could even resemble a positive light.

I think *at best* (in as much as Bioshock even has a message about this), the Bioshocks seems to support more of letting an individual follow their own conscience, rather than imposing morality down on others or allowing yourself to be imposed upon.

Or, y'know, don't be an oppressive dick, whether it's banning all religion or forcing others to adhere to one.
