Are you 100% sure it's a guy? Every single time I've run into the Fandom Gay Male Gatekeeper "he's" been a cishet girl playing pretend on the internet to try to make slash fans feel bad, lmao.

I remember a long time ago on a forum, there was a "gay guy" whose "boyfriend" also posted occasionally and they would have cutesy back and forth exchanges where everyone told them how cute they were. Over time a story developed where one of them's sister went to prison for some reason and they got custody of her four kids (even though this was during the Bush administration and they lived in some southern state so it's highly unlikely that would've happened) and would post about all the adorable things the kids did and the things they did with them and stuff. They gave these really Gary Stu type physical descriptions of themselves and talked about their matching tattoos and shit, then when they posted pictures, they didn't really match the descriptions they'd given.

Turned out to be a straight girl with a sockpuppet and one of the pictures she'd posted had been of some friend of hers who'd died (you'd think she could've gotten the description more accurate) and the other was I think some random stock photo model guy. Apparently a bunch of drama went down after that was discovered, but I happened to miss it and went on the forum the next day after all the posts were deleted and had to hear the story from other posters.

Anyway, that's a really long way to say that yes, it's entirely possible it's a straight girl trying to screw with people.

Hilarious, because a very similar thing happened in a forum I frequented back in the day too. Not so similar that they might be the same, but pretty close. More or less the girl pretended to be a gay guy with their real life boyfriend, until someone recognized him and they had to 'come out' as a straight couple... (some other shit happened too, but it's been too long for me to remember)

I really hope someone gathers all these old forum drama stories into a book one day. Everyone has at least one story about a member with a sockpuppet telling fake stories with fake photos. Lowkey love reading them.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
This is the most likely scenario. She gets more attention by pretending to be a gay man.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Seems like kind of a reach to say it's the most likely explanation

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
It is in no way a stretch, fandom spaces are overwhelmingly female.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
But by no means exclusively

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Especially reddit and 4chan.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It does massively depend on the platform and on the topics. On Tumblr, the vast majority in fandom is female. Same goes for most fanworks revolving around shipping.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised by the amount of shipping art on reddit.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
nah

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I've run into Fandom Male Gatekeepers (of various sexualities) and while they are dicks and some of them aren't actually male, the real problem is all the women who suck up to them. Same for other majority female hobbies, one guy shows up and let's all worship him and attack anyone who disagrees!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
ooooh, is this where we can talk shit about andy blake and his legion of fangirls lmao

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
wait, does that fuckhead still have fangirls?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
sadly, you're not wrong. and this is why some women pretend to be men in those spaces. men always get more attention in female-dominated hobbies.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I was guessing more along the lines of the many new "transmasc mlm softbois uwu" but that's basically the same shit, different decade.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck off

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
lmao you're not wrong. somehow experts of cis gay sex despite also being acearo uwu 2 soft 4 sex

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Or alternatively experts on cis gay sex, relationships and behaviour despite only ever having been in (internet) relationships with other mlm softbois uwu. It's actually pretending to be the only gay in fandom town, only with even less effort than the chicks who did it ten years ago because they don't even really put any work into not appearing as girls play-pretending to be guys.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize that those "girls play-pretending to be guys" in a relationship with each other are still gay, right?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure but gay women are still not the primary authority on gay men's sex life.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Transphobia

Nope, try again.
