This seems weird because actors and writers for Star Wars have commented on things like Stormpilot and other ships, and we have Hamill giving Luke shippers a big old wink. (And then last week we had Tompson talk about non-canonical Thor spooning and thruples with Danvers.)

I think "ship and let ship" should apply to professionals as well as fans. That includes "ship and let not ship." It's not as if Reylos need either her endorsement or canon validation.
