I feel like people in general over the past decade or two have increasingly lost all awareness for what is awkward and needs to stop. To me, this is one of those things.

MTE.

IA. I think that with the internet, it's easier for people to find other people who think like them. Most of the time this is harmless but the same applies for people with cringey or off the wall beliefs. From there it's easy to get a skewed perspective for what's normal.

Absolutely OP! I agree!

Also why am I getting a King Kong vibe from Kylo in that image?;;

Fandom as a whole maybe needs to rediscover their sense of shame, cos this shit is just b a d

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom as a whole needs to go outside and interact with other human beings face to face tbh.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-01 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My exposure to fandom is limited these days, but it seems like it's always interviewers/the media who are asking about it, like they're intentionally trying to stoke some drama. Fans are just being the way they've always been.

I mean, I ship it somewhat and what she said didn't piss me off. She was respectful. It's the people who misquoted her and were throwing a party because "Daisy Ridley just told reylos to choke!" (yes, I saw that, it was how the thing first got on my radar) that bothered me. Basically in theory it's not nearly as bad as asking actors about RPF, but because people in fandom are immature shits, we can't have nice things.

Actors don't get word of God. It's just a person's opinion and people have no reason to make such a big deal of what they say. But overall I think it's more fun when they mostly just hint about their biases.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
You think actors haven't heard of shipping? In this age of social media and conventions?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
That.... is not the issue at all. Just because they've heard of the practice of shipping doesn't mean they support whatever the fandom prefered ship is. They have their own ideas about their character and sometimes it goes against the popular fandom views.

That's why it's best to not bring up fanon shit to the actors/writers. There is a good chance there response is not gonna be what the fandom wants and they'll get backlash or blown out of context by different sides of fandom wars. Best to just avoid that shit and stick to general, non-shippy, questions.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
And I'm sure they'd all prefer NOT to hear about it or have to answer stupid questions about it from awkward weirdos.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
You think OP's objection is "Don't ask actors about shipping because they've never heard of it and they're delicate hothouse flowers who cannot know of the 21st century!" and not "Don't ask actors about shipping because it puts them in an awkward position that risks alienating portions of the fandom regardless of their answer and anyway to them it's probably a job and not the romance of the century so don't make it weird"?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You feel dumb yet? Hang onto that feeling, it'll help you, hopefully.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
It gives me SO much second hand embarrassment. Most shipping is just fanon crack theories that may or may not have any actual basis in canon. It's meant to be kept in fandom amongst the circle of shippers. Why... why.... WHY do some obnoxious shippers feel so entitled that they have to bring actors/actresses/writers on board.

It's always embarrassing for the rest of the fans and it NEVER plays out the way the shippers want to. Just stop this.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
AGREED.

PSA: Talking and/or whining to actors and writers about your ship is not going to make it become canon (or not-canon in this case). Go write fanfic.

While I think that pushing actors/actresses to discuss SHIPPING is bad, I do think there was pretty obviously a romantic subtext to be seen in TLJ, whether or not it actually goes that way. It's almost like an interviewer asking about Finn/Rose, in my opinion. It feels very obvious, not one of those weird fandom things.

THIS.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Which was one of the several reasons this movies sucked.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-02 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
This seems weird because actors and writers for Star Wars have commented on things like Stormpilot and other ships, and we have Hamill giving Luke shippers a big old wink. (And then last week we had Tompson talk about non-canonical Thor spooning and thruples with Danvers.)

I think "ship and let ship" should apply to professionals as well as fans. That includes "ship and let not ship." It's not as if Reylos need either her endorsement or canon validation.
