Oh man, I want to go back to the beach!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It’s not a weird thing to be bothered by, I would find it hypocritical (because middle aged men never watch things for eye candy) and annoying as heck. But it is a little weird that your dad knows what slash is and that you watch things for that reason…

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[SA] OR I’m just dumb and misread that part of the secret, ignore me lol

OP

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I made the secret super late last night to get it in for this week (I'm honestly surprised it went up in the first post of the week) and wasn't 100% sure I worded it the best.

Basically I like the hot guys/slashiness but he doesn't know that's the main reason I like it (he doesn't know that slash is a thing and there's no way I'm explaining it to him lol) so he doesn't really know why I like it and probably thinks I just have bad taste/like dumb things which makes me feel judged although I know I shouldn't care.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So why does HE watch it then?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
This, lmao. I'm so sick of grown men who watch stuff to oogle pretty girls and who LOVE fanservice male gaze-y lesbian action... and these men have the audacity to shit on girls who enjoy stuff for eye candy.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
OP

The person above me is pretty close, I'm pretty sure he finds the main female character hot and she's one of the big reasons. (And I think he does seem to find the story interesting sometimes too.)

It's nice that OP has a good relationship with her dad.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Watching TV with your dad seems like a really low bar for a "good relationship".

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt Well, I'm glad OP and their dad have the kind of relationship where they can watch tv together.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Nah, we do have a good relationship. Like I said in another comment, it's entirely possible (probable?) that he hasn't really even put any thought into why I watch it, I just sometimes worry about stuff that I logically know is dumb to care about.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt
Spending some free time together sounds great, tbh. Many fathers would be too busy aka disinterested to do it.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I never act excited about something with my family. Even on a basic level of saying "this is my favorite character".

I was mocked by my parents and my sister as a kid every time I made known that I like something. If something bad happened to my favorite character they would joke about it to me and really belittle me.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh yes, same here. And if I dared to make fun of them for what they liked I was the asshole.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Your family members sound like jerks.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
OP

I honestly feel the same way about stuff in general, not just this show. I'm always afraid of being judged/made fun of if they know what stuff I like, even though to be fair to my family, they've never given me any reason to feel that way (well, minus my brother but he's just an asshole) but I'm still afraid of it happening.

one of my absolute favorite shows is Boardwalk Empire. My parents introduced me to it, but they'd think it's very weird that my favorite character is Richard Harrow.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because of his appearance? I mean, if I remember correctly, he was one of the more sympathetic BE characters and I can totally see why people liked him.

no, they'd think it was weird that I liked him because he was a hired killer.

If it is a show he's into...

(Anonymous) 2019-05-04 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
why would he think you have crappy taste in shows? And if he thinks that he has crappy taste in shows because he watches this, then he probably thinks you get it from him.

Re: If it is a show he's into...

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
OP

I'm not sure he does think that honestly, it's just something I worry about. (Partly why it's a secret, I worry about dumb stuff a lot and rationally know it's stupid but I can't help but feeling like I'm being judged for things.)

Well, parents remember when their kids were all into Thomas the Tank Engine, or Barney, or whatever the hell their young kids watched. So maybe them judging whatever you watch is kind of their default setting after all these years.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
OP, what show?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nice that you and your dad can enjoy a show together even if it's for different reasons.

For the most part me and my parents have vastly different taste in media, and that's okay too.
