Even though the show lampshaded it themselves with Bronn "joking" about how they mutually wanna fuck?

THAT IS WHAT I AM SAYING. They are all just like, he is just a mentor to her and someone she looks up to.

LOL, I thought people only pulled that shit with same-sex friends, but I guess if a couple even slightly falls outside of heteronorms that's too unbelievable.

Thanks to most writers being men, most canon relationships tend to be about the guys being paired only with the women the writers want to bang. It's boring and painfully predictable and usually regardless of the actual chemistry between characters as far as I can tell.

I think this is the real, and very ugly - pardon the pun - reason a lot of people haven't twigged Braime as a thing. Brienne is not conventionally attractive, and therefore cannot be taken seriously as a love interest for a 'normal' man. Honestly it's disheartening and shitty.

Yup. Which is one reason they have zero problem shipping her with Tormund. Don't get me wrong, I like Tormund and all, but I get this vibe of "well, that's the best she can hope to do" with some of the fans. Because what she truly wants doesn't matter, and it's not possible for her to end up with a conventionally attractive man.

It bothers me that everyone has forgotten her first love was Renly, because he treated her with respect as both a lady and a fighter.

I think Tormund does respect her in his own way, but she doesn't seem very comfortable with how he expresses that.

Interestingly, I think Jaime and Brienne's relationship follows a lot of the tropes of courtly love. It's a lot closer to the devotion she had for Renly, except that Jaime is pretty fucking devoted to her too.

Yep. I gottta say that's what it seems like a lot of the time.

Excuse me, Brienne is the mentor in that relationship, not Jaime. Do your friends even watch the show?
