In a non-spoilery way....

(Anonymous) 2019-05-05 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Why didn't people like Endgame?

Except for here, I haven't met too many people who didn't like it.

And to be honest, I kind of feel like the people who didn't like it... some of them maybe had unreasonable expectations. Like, it's okay to prefer fanfic but come on, no way were they going to do any of that.

Reddit has a lot as well. And Tumblr.

I didn't really like it and I ship no one and have never read an MCU fanfic, lol.

Seconding this so damn hard.

It was boring in some parts and too emotionally manipulating in a really noticeable way. The music didn't help. Logical loopholes. OOC. It wasn't all bad but these are the things that I noticed.

Depending on what characters you love, you may not like their storylines and seemingly reversing of character development.

On one hand, I'm glad that I watched it. On the other, though, it was a hot mess and I had so much second hand embarassment.

Mega-crossover events are why I fell out of comic books. They're why I'm falling out of movies.

Worst version of time travel I've ever fucking seen

It was like a disappointing online shopping experience.

I feel like they sold me something that looked a lot better than what I actually got when I opened the box.

I think it depended on where your emotional investment was. If the characters you care most about didn't have much to do, or you didn't like the way certain things you cared about were or weren't resolved, then I can see why you didn't like it.

It rewound a lot of the growth that several characters had in previous movies re: emotions, goals, etc.

Gave us endings for some characters that were not ideal see: growth being ignored and/or rewound.

Because their pet ship didn't happen.

I didn't go because...

1. The previous two movies were pretty fucking stupid in how they were written.

2. Even non-Marvel-focused sites have been pumping the bathos for two years now, and it's kind of like having that damn Happy Xmas (War is Over) song on heavy rotation all year round. My fucks to give were thoroughly drained by the 20th article about how the studio did [dead character] wrong.

3. Got spoiled regarding Thor, which is a "fuck you Marvel" moment.

I think the time travel was a lazy cop out that they didn't bother to think about for more than 2 seconds. (I mean, come on, when 2 sets of people behind the movie give two completely contradictory explanations for what is happening with the time travel in the movie, that is a very strong indication things weren't discussed comprehensively.)

I feel they ignored a lot of previous characterization and character growth.

I hated what I considered borderline fridging of a certain character.

I hated the way they downplayed the seriousness of one character's situation so they could have fat jokes.

I hated that so many things were glossed over (like Bruce's evolution) for the sake of other things I didn't think were nearly as important.

Because the Russos are allergic to character development

Because, like all of the Avengers films, to me in was badly written crap that didn't have a measurable ounce of fun in it.
