I'll look forward to reading it :) With my Leaving Cert Irish XD

I'm in 5th year. :D Leaving Cert is naught but a scary prospect to me lol.

It's not actually that bad! They hype it up so much .. once you do it, you're like what's the fuss about? (LOL, I only did it in '07 and sound ancient already XD). My brother just started sixth year and he came home the first day, going "OMG, all they talked about was exams already." Scare tactics, it is!

Apart from orals. They suck, no matter how you look at it!

Re: (Same anonymous as the last one, sorry I didn't say OP. I am, though. XD)

That's what the junior cert was like. XD I mean, it's all hectic up until the day and then afterwards... no-one really cares about your JC results. XD
Orals in Irish should be fine for me, being in a gaelscoil and all. French should be ok too. I'm pretty good with languages. :D

Re: (Same anonymous as the last one, sorry I didn't say OP. I am, though. XD)

LOL, that's true! The JC is even worse than the LC for being bigged up and then later seeming so unimportant! But I guess that it's a big deal when you're doing it and that's what matters!

Ooh, a Gaelscoil, that helps! Most of my LC Irish class had been in Irish schools and classes until the JC, so I felt like such an idiot next to them! They could all chatter away to the teacher in Irish and my friends and I would sit there, thinking, OMG, don't ask us!! But it turned out good in the end (I got an A2 in Higher so I wasn't such an idiot after all XD)

French is fun too! Languages in general are :) It's so interesting learning them - even the grammar!

Ooh, you posted your fic! I'll have to go make some tea and read it! And hope I won't need to go find my dictionary XD

[identity profile] schythr.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I guess that's what matters. the most.
It does. ^^ Even though almost all our textbooks are in english and there's a hell of a lot of translating involved. XD A2! That's awesome.
Oooh I love languages. :D It's like a secret code or a game and you have to figure out the meaning... and I adore the way that there's som many different ways to say the same thing. I have a list of languages I will learn one day. XD
Seriously, my little fic is nothing much. XD It's quite short. But thank you for daring to read it.

Re: (Same anonymous as the last one, sorry I didn't say OP. I am, though. XD)

[identity profile] xxshebeexx.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I forgot about the textbooks being in English. Doesn't that mean you have like twice as much work to do? Not only do you have to learn all the stuff but translate it too? Wouldn't it be easier just to do everything in English? It's hard enough as it is!

That's true, it's like a code! It's especially fun when you actually get to use the language you're learning. I went into a shop in France once and asked for stamps in French and was so excited when I walked out of there with my stamps XD

Hehe, I have a list too! Well, it's short, but existent! I'm studying German at uni at the moment, but I'd love to do French in the future, and Japanese. Oh dear, wanting to learn Japanese is such an anime fangirl thing to do, isn't it? XD

I'll comment on your fic in a bit :)

Re: (Same anonymous as the last one, sorry I didn't say OP. I am, though. XD)

[identity profile] schythr.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well we don't depend on the books very much, and the teachers usually give us technical terms for subjects like physics. It's not so bad lol. It probably would be a hell of a lot better to do it in English though.
Oh yes! When I was in France I bought bread on my own in a bakery and it was great. We wen on a school exchange to the country too in 4th year and it was so much fun. :D
German is on my list. I don't understand when people say it sounds ugly. XD I'm in the middle of teaching myself Japanese, so I know where you're coming from lol. I'm not ashamed of liking it as a language but people tend to assume. XD I think it's a beautiful language, and the writing system is fascinating. I'm still such a novice though! Also on my list is Korean and Spanish. :D(I'll probably never get around to all of them, but one hopes.)
No pressure. :)

Re: (Same anonymous as the last one, sorry I didn't say OP. I am, though. XD)

[identity profile] xxshebeexx.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops, I forgot about the teachers. Yes, they would indeed help a bit. XD

Ooh an exchange! Yeah, you can't really learn a language without going over to the country! It's the best way to learn it! I did a language course in Germany in fifth year, and my roommate there was Canadian but after a day of speaking English, we were like, we're here to learn German, scrap English! We were like the only ones who spoke German all the time XD Yes, it definitely isn't an ugly language. It's a bit complicated and has long words, but it's more mathematical than French, which can make it easier!

Have you gotten far with learning Japanese? I bought a couple of books over the summer and a dictionary (which I always leave next to my computer, cos I'm always using it!) So far, I haven't even gone near the writing. Before the summer hols, I checked out the language section of the library at uni and they have a couple of books on the script, so I might be popping in there for a look when I get a bit better! People do assume and in my case, they're totally right! Well, I wanted to learn Chinese before becoming interested in anime, so it's not like I had no interest in eastern languages whosoever before.

Wow, Korean! It's so rare to find anyone here who speaks that. Apart from Koreans. Duh! You mightn't get round to it... but then again, you might! Even if all you learn is a few bits and pieces here and there in the next twenty years, it's still fun!
