I don't like them. None of them scary. I think I believe in rational explanations too much to be moved. I find horror movies ect boring because of that. Always looking for something that might get me though!

I'm the opposite way. I don't believe in anything supernatural or mystical or w/e, but supernatural stories are the only stories that truly scare me.

Because the thing is, real shit is bound by reality, and I can apply reason and rationality to it. I'm not afraid of serial killers because I know that the odds I will fall prey to a serial killer are infinitesimal, and I also know that I can to take measures to protect myself against most forms of real-life threat.

Whereas once I suspend my disbelief and allow a supernatural entity to exist in my imagination, it isn't bound by reality and I can't apply reason and rationality to it. In a world where monsters exist, I have no idea how likely it is that one is hunting me right now, and I can't fight it and I can't get away from it; I am going to die horrified and helpless.

Hook Man
Hitchhiking girl

Basically, all those summer camp ghost stories that make you afraid to walk back to your cabin alone in the dark, no matter how ridiculous the stories are.

I've read a lot of ghost stories ever since I was a kid - I read lots of anthologies. Mask of the Red Death by Poe was one of my favourites. I also still love August Heat by W. F. Harvey. My favourite back in the day was a story titled "Freund Heiner" - I don't think there's a translation, though.

Movies: I really loved The Others and The Devil's Backbone.

From the very many stories from various horror podcasts, one of my favourite stories is Soft White Damn from the Nosleep podcast. Mostly because Jeff Clement does such a great job at the voice acting.

Henry James' The Turn of the Screw. I remember I started reading it with very low expectations when work was slow one day, and I became instantly engrossed and increasingly creeped out and the way it ends is just... OOF. Such a mindfuck.

DA The Innocents, the 60s movie based on it, creeped the absolute hell out of me as well. Especially the lake scene.
