Henry James' The Turn of the Screw. I remember I started reading it with very low expectations when work was slow one day, and I became instantly engrossed and increasingly creeped out and the way it ends is just... OOF. Such a mindfuck.

DA The Innocents, the 60s movie based on it, creeped the absolute hell out of me as well. Especially the lake scene.
