look, if they'd just get over the whole "ooooooo but what if it's Jon on the throooooooooneeeeeeee" thing and just have them GET MARRIED then it'd be fine.

yes they're aunt-nephew but whatever, clearly nothing else matters on the show in terms of familial relations banging and they literally didn't know until after, just do it and be done with this drama

I was just talking to my brother about this. There is no reason for the two of them to agree to marriage. Jon may find it uncomfortable but he would understand that marriage would be a wise idea, especially to remain king in the North. The excuses made in the show are flimsy.

SA *There's no reason for the two of them NOT to agree to marriage.

I hate the idea of Jon on the throne, but I can think of one reason they shouldn't marry. Dany believes herself to be barren, so what is she going to do about heirs? Even if she ends up on the throne, her best recourse is to have Jon marry and have kids with someone else, and declare those offspring heir.

In a kingdom where generally males only rule unless there are no men, like Westeros, if the female heir to the throne marries, her husband rules. If they got married, Jon would still be the one on the throne.

Precedents exist though for people with better claim setting aside their right to rule and ceding it to someone else. Bottom line is, if Jon is adamant about not ruling, no one can make him.

Thing is, the show is doing a weird thing where he SAYS he supports Dany for the throne but doesn't really do much else to back that up, making you think, "Well maybe he DOES want the throne..." which is stupid because it flies in the face of his character.

He's still a potential focus for rebellions under those conditions, for one thing

For my part, I think that marriage between them is not the solution. If Jon wants to reveal his lineage but still not rule, he should join Dany's Queensguard. Then he can be close to her and not threaten her rule. The fact that he never brought that up is part of the show's annoying 'what does he really want' sleight of hand.

I think it's less meant to make us wonder what he wants, and more evidence of the writers' inability to write convincing conflict. They ignore obvious solutions to various problems because coming up with reasons those solutions wouldn't work is more effort than they want to put in. So people make decisions that are stupid to the point of being utterly nonsensical, characters conveniently forget important information when it would be relevant, and no one ever suggests reasonable approaches to things.

I mean, didn’t want to harp on it overly much but I think keeping Jon’s intention ambiguous is totally cheap drama-exploitation and bad writing. Like we could seriously be convinced to entertain even the possibility that he might suddenly want to play the game of thrones at this stage.

They She kind of forgot marriage alliances are a thing, despite dumping that mercenary guy explicity so she could be free to make one if needed.
