Favorite tv channel

If you had to pick just one, what is your favorite tv channel? Not including streaming services.


Mine would be Animal Planet.

If for whatever reason I can't get online, I only watch TCM and CREATE TV these days simply because I can't stand the overabundance of commercials that has plagued television in recent years. Also, I get super depressed and anxious when... forced to hear anti-depressant and anxiety related medication advertisements. Ha.

If you're having trouble detecting a bit of hyperbole, happy to clarify. But I literally don't know any young adults (say under 35) these days who actually pay for TV channels when things like Netflix exist.

I don't pay for TV but still watch it because of good ol' American broadcast TV.

Under 35 here and same, everyone I know who owns a TV has it for streaming purposes and/or video games. I don't know anyone who watches traditional TV.

You have to pay for Netflix, too, though, and "watch tv" doesn't just mean "watch cable."

If you live in the US, you own a TV, and you live some place where you can receive over-the-air signals, then you can watch TV for free. Not everything, of course, but there's stuff on broadcast TV that's not available on cable and may only stream on that network/entertainment company's specific streaming service (and to get all of the streaming services these days is like paying for cable anyway). My TV is already there, so why not watch stuff for free?

Probably ABC (the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, not the American one, to be clear). They have the sort of things I like. The SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) are up there too. They do all the foreign language TV and indie films and so forth.

I just watch DVDs and online TV now. I don't have to go by their schedule or look at a lot of stupid ads or pay big bucks to comcast.

It used to be Food Network when the shows were mostly cooking instructional shows. These days it's mostly food competition and food travel shows. Don't get me wrong, those can be fun too, but I'd rather watch someone explain and show to me what they're cooking and how they do it.

Perhaps HGTV. I can vicariously shop for houses and remodel homes through the shows.

PBS all the way. I don't have cable anymore and have yet to bother with streaming and PBS is about 95% of my tv time.

It is the only channel I regularly watch. At this point, most other things I watch online. But Animal Planet is something we watch together as a family. The zoo shows, the vet shows, I love them so much.

PBS. I can watch concerts, cartoons, BBC dramas, and other stuff.

PBS & TCM

AMC for some of its original programming
TNT for the Charmed/Angel/SPN reruns
Starz for its original programming and often intl cinema
IFC/Sundance for the indie movies

Why isn't there more old movie secrets when everyone watches TCM??
(also TCM, and PBS, plus TSN/Sportsnet.)

I never make secrets, but the one time I really wanted to (regarding an old movie) had to do with the Hitchcock classic about the girl and her murderous uncle and all the wierd incestuous? vibes between them. He'll of a movie.

there's a line in that movie where the girl is described as obviously not crazy because she gets good grades. Well, I bet Hannibal Lecter got good grades....
