She's a very charismatic performer and she's not doing anything actively morally wrong AFAIK so

Eh

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. In this economy especially, I'd consider advocating stupid shit that costs a lot of money and has zero health benefits (or worse, possible negative repercussions) to be morally wrong.

Don't shove expensive rocks up your vaginas, ladies.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-15 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Her whole brand is LUXURY LIFESTYLE so I have to imagine that its followers are not suffering from the effects of the economy.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
she convinced a bunch of women to stuff jade eggs up their vaginas for the sake of "balancing hormones"

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying she's not dumb

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I think there is a line where being dumb starts hurting people though. Especially if you have a fanbase and a platform and people's trust

I don't think she does it intentionally, but neither do the people who promote useless expensive juice cleanses and things or get people alarmed about 'toxins'

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
In all honesty, I sort of assume that her target audience is largely people who are stupid rich already. It might bother me more if that wasn't who she was appealing to.

And also, at the end of the day, the moral standards of Hollywood are fucking low to start with.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're implying that gives her a pass? Or that we should apply a different standard?

I mean, there's no question a pass, and different standards, ARE given. But you agree that this is fine?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Apply a different standard compared to what? I don't understand the question

I have never heard of this but how was that supposed to work

????????????????????

I mean obviously it doesnt work but what was the supposed reasoning

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
new age hippie nonsense about how certain rocks have mystical properties that effect human "energies." it's nothing new, but she's one of the more public and influential people purporting this useless shit, and for a pretty hefty sum at that. fools and their money, etc.

I wonder if they get stuck a lot

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
god LMAO I hope not... I have to imagine most people would have strong enough kegels to pop it out?? It might not be dignified, but a good squat and bear down should've taken care of it.

Well, then that's kind of on them too, isn't it? I mean - they obviously didn't do enough due diligence to know it was a fucked-up idea.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really like that argument because then we have no basis to dislike people spreading, say, antivaxx info. Because it should've been on the readers to do their due diligence, right?

Can we not agree that famous people with large platforms spreading misinformation is bad for everybody?

I never said it wasn't - it's on her, too.
But if you think a movie actress knows more about your genital health then, say, a doctor, I don't have much sympathy for you.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
idk, i know ignorance isn't an excuse, but i feel iffy blaming victims. the responsibility is on the influential woman selling snake oil.

I can't have my sympathy for people who think a movie actress knows more about their genital health than a doctor. She's an idiot for spreading that, but for fuck's sake - you gotta take five minutes to RESEARCH this shite!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-15 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but yeah, I don't think it falls under victim blaming (IMO) to say, "Did you really think a random actress knew better about your vagina than someone with a medical degree?"

In the same way I don't think saying, "Did you really think leaving your purse on the front seat of your unlocked car was a good idea?" isn't exactly victim blaming because that's idiocy.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2019-05-15 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. A victim has little to no control over what happened to them. Someone shoving rocks up their vagina because 'Gwyneth said' just makes me wanna shake them.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't victim blaming to say people should do some goddamn research before spending oodles of cash because some flaky actress was extolling the virtues of stuffing rocks up your vagina.

Like, if she was a con artist presenting false but convincing-at-a-glance evidence in order to bilk people out of that sweet sweet vagina rock cash, it'd be a different story. But there's no evidence whatsoever that she doesn't believe wholeheartedly in the miracle of twat rocks.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She tried to sell people a coffee enema device.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
GOD i forgot about that one

that's one that can actually be really dangerous!
