Tom Cruise.

I sort of half-agree... I hate what he stands for, and by all means it should put me off as an actor, but he melts so far into his roles that I honestly forget I'm watching him sometimes. Like, my brain forgets that I'm watching an actor, even despite his shitty background.

Oh god, it is completely the opposite for me. Every single role he's ever been in I just feel like he's playing Tom Cruise. I can't ever forget who I'm watching. Then all the crazy shit happened on top of that.

nayrt - This. I haven't seen all his movies, but the roles seem really samey? Except for his cameo in Tropic Thunder, LOL.

I'm the same. Especially in his earlier roles like Lestat and Maverick.

There are SO MANY of them in Hollywood! People who seem perfectly reasonable and sane, surprise! Crazy cultist!

Yes. Its always a disappointment for me to hear that a new fave is into that. It really diminishes my like for that person.

I mostly feel this way. I'm okay with him in Edge of Tomorrow, though. Watching him die over and over again somehow made me okay with watching him for the rest of the movie.

I thought he was excellently cast in Edge Of Tomorrow, specifically because the movie uses the audience's negative perception of him to its advantage. He starts off as a sleaze and a bit of a coward with a shiny exterior, and it's pure chance that lands him in a situation that basically forces him to improve himself. Until eventually we get to a point where he's grown enough as a person that he begins to actively make heroic choices, but that's only towards the very end, after a heck of a lot of failing his way to decency.

YES. I wasn't crazy about him before the Scientology business came out because I felt he was a very limited sort of actor, but now he just seems waaaaay too intense for comfort.
