Do you like cliffhangers?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, it seems fitting with some horror and mystery. Sometimes I'm okay with it in an action-heavy series if it implies the characters will go on to have more adventures.

Almost ruined Alita.
Alita was saved by being so very packed story wise, and there not really being a better place to end the film.

Re: Do you like cliffhangers?
I don't find them frustrating. I usually fill in the blanks myself a lot anyway when consuming media, and the more blanks there are, the more I tend to enjoy it. Especially for things where the writing isn't the absolute best. (for example, the HP epilogue. What I imagined was better than that dumpster fire.)
Re: Do you like cliffhangers?
(Anonymous) 2019-05-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)However, in reality cliffhangers tend to end up feeling cheap once the next season rolls around and the writers do a bunch of hand-waving or back-peddling to deal with the ramifications of the cliffhanger as perfunctorily as possible.
What I long for is cliffhangers that have ramifications the show ends up dealing with, in depth, for a big chunk of the next season. So basically, strong storytelling, lol.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-19 05:08 am (UTC)(link)I feel like maybe the Good Wife was pretty good at this - they would end with something that would raise eyebrows and then when it picked back up again, it would be an actual game-changer and push the series in a different direction than it had been going (generally in a good way).
