Well...

Yeah, I agree with this.

But more than that, the non-feministy stuff was also kinda cringe.

"You're the female bruce wayne"

"Awesome, hilarious... handsome" *CRIIIIINGE*

Like, I think the writers of this show can not write BatWoman well.

The line:

"The suit is literal perfection"
"It will be when it fits a woman"

does NOT sound like Kate Kane. Kane is about trying to prove HERSELF, not stand as a fill in to prove all women. the line would have worked SO much better as "It will be when it fits me". It was SO close.

I also think they don't really have a handle on writing women in general.

TO be honest I think they struggle with writing actual human people.

I just want to know what soap opera failed leaving these writers free to fuck up a tv show based on a COMIC.

...

Still Alice seems to be done kinda alright. They CAN write a human female... if all the do if have her speak in Lewis Carroll quotes...

>"It will be when it fits a woman"
>better as "It will be when it fits me". It was SO close

Yeah, they kinda went with the telling the audience what a confident woman she is! FEMINISM! vs. writing an actual example of a confident woman.

yup.

Caroline Dries wrote the pilot. She also wrote for Smallville, Melrose Place, and Vampire Diaries (where she was also an EP).

Not to be a jerk to the people who like those shows but... yeah I can see it.

Trailers, man

(Anonymous) 2019-05-21 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
A bit unrelated but I don't get why she gets called androgynous so much. Just because of the short hair? Because her face looks super feminine to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe if it were a really really pretty....... teen boy? 15 y/o Justin Bieber probably could've done that look if he tried for some reason.

Other than that, I got nothing, reads totally female to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-21 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Most people don't use androgynous to mean "I literally can't tell if they're male or female" though. She's wiry, very little in the way of curves, with extremely strong facial bone structure - especially her brow and jaw. All of which is, traditionally, more masculine than feminine. I would never mistake her for a guy, but I would also never describe her as traditionally feminine.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-21 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it's just mainstream for "butch but, like, not like a dyke"

(Anonymous) 2019-05-21 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
In your secret she looks more feminine than usual, and I'd still describe her as androgynous. But if you asked me whether the person in the link below is a girl or a beautiful guy in makeup, I'd only be about 70% on them being a girl.

i don't disagree with 'androgynous' but really... it's clearly obvious she's a woman in that pic too

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Not to me it isn't. We don't all see faces and gauge gender the same. I've seen more than one male youtube beauty influencer who looks more feminine that Rose does in that pic.

I thought the canon here was that Batman was retired? I might be mistaken.

Side note: I wish the Arrowverse treated LGBT male characters the same way every female LGBT character in the 'verse has a visible relationship with on-screen stuff.

The trailer was kind of cringy in places, but I'm hoping it plays better on the show, especially after the pilot.

Agreed.

I love the Batwoman comics and was really excited when they announced the tv series, but the trailer makes it look so ridiculously low budget. Like it was made by the film studio The Asylum instead of DC/Warner Bros. I hope the actual show is a lot better.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it CW, who loaded Supergirl with cheap girl-power lines, forgettable pop-songs, bad romantic chemistry, and some of the worst plot devices on television?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
SA: Supergirl manages to be stupid and fun, while Legends is stupid and frequently less fun, Flash is just painfully earnest and stupid,

... and Arrow, I had absolutely no idea that they could make Oliver Queen less fun than Bruce Wayne's wangst. But they did it. It's an achievement, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Called it a long time ago. It's been obvious since the series was a twinkle in CW's eye that they were going this route, and message above story results in bad story.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I want Batwoman to be awesome, and any time she spends saying "The suit will be perfect... once it fits A WOMAN!" is time she's not spending being awesome.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
what did you expect, OP? Supergirl is the same cringy rah rah basic white girl feminism shit and has been from the beginning. Did you think Batwoman would be any different?
