A bit unrelated but I don't get why she gets called androgynous so much. Just because of the short hair? Because her face looks super feminine to me.

Maybe if it were a really really pretty....... teen boy? 15 y/o Justin Bieber probably could've done that look if he tried for some reason.

Other than that, I got nothing, reads totally female to me.

Most people don't use androgynous to mean "I literally can't tell if they're male or female" though. She's wiry, very little in the way of curves, with extremely strong facial bone structure - especially her brow and jaw. All of which is, traditionally, more masculine than feminine. I would never mistake her for a guy, but I would also never describe her as traditionally feminine.

i think it's just mainstream for "butch but, like, not like a dyke"

In your secret she looks more feminine than usual, and I'd still describe her as androgynous. But if you asked me whether the person in the link below is a girl or a beautiful guy in makeup, I'd only be about 70% on them being a girl.

i don't disagree with 'androgynous' but really... it's clearly obvious she's a woman in that pic too

Not to me it isn't. We don't all see faces and gauge gender the same. I've seen more than one male youtube beauty influencer who looks more feminine that Rose does in that pic.

Sorry, I'm just over here laughing at the phrase "beauty influencer" ...

(Anonymous) 2019-05-22 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That's mostly because she's not wearing a lot of (obvious) makeup in that linked picture while most male youtube beauty influenzas are basically decked out in layers and layers of the stuff. So what you're gauging as male or female may have something to do with the amount/type of makeup on a person rather than their actual face.
