I think "find someone attractive" generally entails being personally attracted to them

I disagree. Hence my comment demonstrating the nuanced difference between the two.

Your comment was about the difference between "attractive" and "attracted to." My thing is that the figure of speech "find someone attractive" actually falls more in the second category, not the first.

Yes! This! There is a difference. I finally started answering “do you think so and so is attractive” with “well, they’re symmetrical enough”. As odd as it is, it’s easier than explaining the difference.

DA, but no? There are plenty of celebrities who I think are objectively attractive, they just aren't my personal type.

DA but isn't attractiveness inherently subjective? How can something or someone be "objectively" attractive?

Isn't that like saying something is "objectively" delicious?

Studies have shown that there are certain physical proportions and ratios that people find more aesthetically pleasing than others, consciously or subconsciously.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-23 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
True!

Except studies have also shown that the physical proportions, ratios, and features that people find attractive can totally differ by culture.

Unless you're going to insist that every culture agree with yours, how do you find objectivity in that?

I suppose that in a global entertainment landscape, there are some people that are ALMOST universally thought to be pretty/handsome.

I think that the average face composite in every country is pretty or handsome.

Agreed, I would say they're all rather attractive. Some more than others, but there isn't a single one that I DON'T think is pretty or handsome.
