Okay... I feel the need to step in and say this. And I say it as someone who loves Nia to death and cries just THINKING about what happened to her.

SJust because she is a main character, does not mean she's not a sue. She has sue qualities. Especially when she first shows up. She gets better but she does have a lot of sue qualities.

Yes she helped Simon. Yes she is the only reason he was able to recover from losing Kamina. But don't be in such denial. =/

101) Oh boy. In all likelihood, fandom is filled with more conservatives than you think. However, it's fucking fandom, and most people have the good sense to leave their political opinions at the door.

149. It affected me, too. I usually hate applying the word "tragic" to random deaths, but honestly, her breakdown and eventual death fits the word, I think. I neither like or dislike Nia, and I have no problem with people who have valid reasons for their likes and dislikes. But you're coming across as a rabid fan here. Her eyes and hair and "zomg Mary Sue even though the author created her" are not really well put reasons to feel so strongly against a character. If you can't come up with something more articulate, such as "I really can't relate to characters who are naive" or "I prefer female characters who go into battle." I would just keep this yourself. Because most fandoms WILL react badly to rabids.

149. I hated Cally towards the end as well, but her final episode was one of the most emotionally affecting ones of the entire show. I just felt so much for her; I was scared for her and by her… and the way she ended stays in my gut. I’m now watching the series over again with my family, and seeing her as that green wrench monkey who bit a rapist’s ear off makes what she’ll become feel particularly tragic.

Also, the actress was spot-on great.

159. The cover for City of Bones will never stop being funny to me. It’s like a giant naked dude is wearing skyscrapers as his belt! Skyscrapers which emit a particularly nasty, green-tinted odor. And oblong nipples!

The term Mary Sue is completely WORTHLESS when it comes to canonical characters. Characters that go from Mushishi's Ginko to Kenshin in RK could be considered Sues if we considered Nia a Sue.

It's a term that will never work in anime and manga. Nor in classic mythology. Or in movies. OR IN ANYTHING.
