101. How about ALL of you fucking morons out there stop calling yourselves Democrats and Republicans or Liberals and Conservatives as if they mean anything? How about you get off your cliquey little asses and learn about the issues and identify yourself by the ones you support, rather than trying to define your social opinions under labels that exist solely for the purpose of publicity media? How about you GROW A BRAIN and learn that THERE IS NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE?

112. I don't follow House really, but I watch the show when it's on because it's pretty good -- yeah, that scene was really beautifully done.

123. ......holy fucking shit. o.0

140. I've never seen her stuff before, but.... ew whut. That's not steampunk, that's like... one of those stupid babydoll dresses for grownups. EW.

How about you stop generalizing people? I'm a political science major ... I read about the issues and I identify with the Democratic party because I agree with what they stand for.

It's not like the majority of us are like "ooh, I like the color blue so I'll go with the Democrats" or "Ooh, I want to be a Republican cuz I think it's cool".

Some of us are informed, thanks. Just because we call ourselves Democrats/Republicans doesn't mean we're stupid.

As for the OP? Yes, I laughed at the secret. However, when I say I'm a Democrat, I know what I'm talking about.

...Yes it is.

I don't know who you're meeting but the people I spend my time are well informed and are up to date with the issues. Not enough people are informed (and I know that I've read about people spurting out things that they have no idea about) but that doesn't mean everyone who refers to themselves as Democrat/Republican is an idiot. :\

It's more like "all the trendy kids are Democrats, so I'm going to be one, too!"

Re: 101

[identity profile] svgurl.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
That'd be sad but I do doubt that that's what's going on. I certainly am not doing that though with the way the Republicans have been handling the past 8 years, I don't see why anyone is surprised people are turning to the Democratic party.

Again, SOME of us are informed. It has nothing to do with party labels and everything to do with people not taking enough time to inform themselves on the issues.

It's more like "all the trendy kids are Democrats, so I'm going to be one, too!"

I've grown up around politics, but many of the people I know didn't. Sadly, I've found that the above is true among most of those people.

This is true, but then there are also those who are only Republican because their religion tells them they should be or because it's what their parents say is right.

It goes both ways. There are idiots on both sides.

I agree.

I was with you until you said that there is no difference. Obviously there is in a theoretical sense, because they tend to have different stances on the issues. Maybe not so much in practice, but that's a different issue entirely.

Re: 101

[identity profile] asswit.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I meant. There's no difference in the sense that there really is no official "stance" either party or their candidates takes on any issue. It's just... whatever they can sell.

[identity profile] willfully.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)

I don't agree that there's no difference (between parties/candidates, etc.), but THIS. OMFG YES, THIS. FUCKING LABELS, I SWEAR.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
lol edgy. "Oh noes, labels are totally meaningless and really you are all just SHEEPLE following the COMMERCIAL MEDIA and if you had a BRAIN maybe you'd realize that labels are all CONFORMIST BULLSHIT man."

The real world: it does not work the way you think it does.

[identity profile] asswit.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
The real world: It is not necessarily right just because you disagree with me.

Also, reading comprehension: get you some. I didn't say labels. I said political parties. Disagreeing with the political party system and the way the media is handling politics doesn't make me an uninformed hippie.

[identity profile] cdaae.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
True, dat.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't agree or disagree with you. I don't think you really have a point with which anyone can reasonably agree or disagree with--no reasonable person is going to say, "No, it's totally awesome when people don't think for themselves and are lied to by a government that's restrictive and wasteful and corrupt (like all governments ultimately are)!" but at the same time, there's nothing concrete to agree with. What you are saying is nice and idealistic and sounds good, but is ultimately meaningless because it fails to take into account the situation as it as and how people actually act. So you can get all noble and high and mighty about what people should or should not do (according to you) but where does it get you if it's utterly divorced from reality? You can disagree all you like, but does it really change anything? (No.)

And you did say labels: "...labels that exist solely for the purpose of publicity media."
