On one hand, this one is among several movies that tend to be on the "best movies of all time omg so awesome" lists of 1st year film students who think they sound knowledgable and refined by listing it.

On the other hand, that's not the movie's fault and it's actually on genuine "best movies" lists for a reason.

You can say that you don't like it. But saying "it's sooo overrated, not actually good" sounds a tiny bit pretentious and intentionally contrarian in a weirdly smug hipster way.

I mean, I get it. I personally can't watch Metropolis, for example, because I think it looks a bit silly from a modern POV and I have a hard time not finding those slightly too fast and jerky movements in old silent movies too involuntarily funny to take the movies seriously. But it's still a masterpiece of cinematography, especially for the time it came out.
