I still like the aesthetic of these movies. I just wish they'd lived up to their potential. 2 and 3 were awful. And 1 was actually kind of overrated in terms of plot. The aesthetics, technology and effects were great. But the plotting and acting wasn't so good.

My first association with that will always be Ghost in the Shell.

Of note.

I don't know if you care or not, but the code is based on Japanese cookbooks, which I find weirdly fascinating. https://www.indiewire.com/2017/10/the-matrix-code-digital-rain-meaning-1201891684/

The timing on this secret is awesome; I literally just rewatched The Matrix yesterday! I spent a large chunk of the movie raving passionately about how truly magnificent the aesthetics and the cinematography are. Despite some pretty significant plot holes/conceptual flaws that become more and more apparent with time, the first Matrix movie is still pretty darn magnificent.

I think the concepts stand better once you realize that Neo is probably a metaphor for Buddha and Kali, and the whole story arc is about Karma and bringing an end to the current Dharmic cycle. As science fiction, they probably should have stuck with humans as nodes in a massively parallel computing system.

Yeah, I loved it as well.

Also, the Matrix DVD was the first one I came across that had a separate commentary from the composer (and/or sound effects director -- it's beena few years)> It was awesome to watch scenes where the natural sound and dialog tracks were muted, and hear only the soundtrack. (I especialy remember the early scene of Trinity running in slowed motion across that up and down roof.)

Yeah this movie had a huge impact on me. It was movies before the Matrix and movies after the Matrix. I always compare them.
