When you create a world where men have always had the power and women have even less power than they had in the real world at the sort of time period you are basing your thing on, it is a bit iffy to me to create a cautionary tale about power featuring one of the few women to actually get power. I think even if the story had been entirely effective, it would have given me pause for this reason.

Madoka is absolutely terrible though... Still can't understand why anybody liked it.

I dunno, how many of the men who desired power fared any better?

By my count Sansa is the only character who wanted power who eventually got it.

All the rest of the people who ended up with any power had it put upon them.

And most of the people who sought power for themselves met very unpleasant ends.

Yup. Hardly anyone came out of this well really.

Didn't the creator of Madoka Magica literally say the entire world in PMMM was designed to punish girls for being magical girls and for daring to have ambitions/power fantasies? He basically said something about it being selfish and wrong for girls to do that or some shit. So your friend wasn't wrong tbh.

Most of that was taken out of context and mistranslated, but even if it wasn't, we all love Death of the Author until it gives us the opportunity to roast a show we hate, don't we?

Dude it's Gen Urobuchi. The guy loves mangling female characters.

Nobody disrespects Madoka Magica

Except the Butcher himself.
