I don't like Fat Thor and not for any of the "good" reasons either. I just don't like that Thor's fat now.

I think I'm the same both with the fat part and the depressed part. Like, I think having him depressed was probably objectively an interesting way to go. I just wish they'd gone that story route with someone else because a big part of Thor's attractiveness for me is his general joy for life. The fat part was just unnecessary and I don't like fat jokes. But I do think a lot of my reasons for disliking his storyline are shallow.

I'm probably in a minority, but I kind of like that Fat Thor started as a joke...until you realized it really wasn't. Or at least was a lot deeper than that. The guy had a lot of weight on his shoulders... no pun intended... and hadn't really dealt with it. They probably could have tossed in fewer fat jokes, yeah, but I kind of appreciated that they showed he had a real problem. By the time he met Frigga, I was so ready to give him a hug.

THe fat jokes just ruined it for me, and I thought it was a good story in theory that might have worked better with a different character. That being said, I don't think it was completely terrible, and I get why it worked for a lot of people. As someone who has struggled with mental illness, parts of it resonated, I just wish it hadn't been with Thor.

He'll be fit by the time the next Guardians movie roll around. Probably him and Quill will both be in better shape than ever and they'll handwave that by saying something about them competing to get cut.
