I have a dakimakura of Sebastian from Black Butler that I got from NekoCon a long time ago. I'm sorry if a body pillow is cringy despite it gives me something to cuddle when I'm feeling depressed and/or lonely and helps my back and just happens to have something I like on it for further comfort.

I can kinda understand it from a teddy bear security blanket kind of way, putting a favorite character on something you hug. According to Wikipedia this is supposedly part of the appeal.

I do think there's a big difference between "buying art of favorite characters to put on a security object" and "buying porn of characters to put on a fuckpillow" though. Dakimakura is just a medium that covers both, so you'd have to be more specific.

I find the pornographic ones cringy. The regular ones... eh. I don't care.

And here I am on the others side of the fence wishing there was more smut fic involving dakimakuras. It's sexy for a character to get so hot and bothered that they're willing (and eager) to fuck even a pillow.

I'm more than a little creeped out by the idea of anybody wanting to fuck anime characters, especially the really baby faced ones.

oh no some people find anime characters attractive! (not all anime characters are loli and shota, but wanting to fuck those kinds of charas is weird yeah but not all anime is loli and shota ffs)

I totally agree. It's weird. 99% of animals characters just look like kids with breasts. It's unbelievably creepy.

I find them sort of cringy like those sculpted mouse pads with tits on them - I can appreciate they can fulfill a practical purpose, and some have pretty cool designs, but they still make me cringe. Whatever though, it's not lile anyone's asking me to buy one.

Is there something inherently wrong with being a "weirdo?" I thought we as a society were trying to move past that, with nerdy shit becoming more mainstream.

Owning a body pillow with a favorite character isn't a big deal. It's not hurting anyone. It's not much different than someone cuddling a stuffed animal. The pillows aren't my things but there is so much more to be judgy about anime that a pillow is nothing.

I’ve always wanted one a dakimakura because I fall asleep better when I’m hugging something, but I don’t think I could get one with a picture of my husbando half naked.

I agree it is extremely nerdy and often intentionally erotic to the point where seeing it in a random person's home would make even the most open-minded cringe a little. But on the other hand, it's not really hurting anyone, is it, and it isn't hurting anyone. Not really any different from someone having a bikini-clad motorcycle babe poster, tbh. (Which is still cringey, but if it makes you happy, it's your private space so everyone else can fuck off.)

I do get uncomfortable around the ones that look like kids, though. Some of those are just objectively creepy and unhealthy.

Yay, an "I judge you" secret!

I usually judge dakimakura on their design first.

Which is to say, I judge the designer of said dakimakura just as much as I do its buyer.

Did the artist deliberately portray a ridiculously underaged character? Were they catering to the lowest possible fandom common denominator and then some? Given the materials that the pillow covers are usually made out of, is the price point way too high?

If any of the above questions can be answered with a resounding yes, I usually think that the dakimakura is point and laugh worthy.

Whether or not some poor sucker actually buys the damned thing is kinda moot after all that.

as someone who owns a few (the sheets for them but not put in pillows currently), i guess i just don't care if that makes me a weirdo or a creep? i'm not hurting anyone

The art here offends me more tbh. If you're gonna go all out for your waifu/husbando, the least you can do is to make sure they look their best.

I'm mostly amused at all of the people in the comments who seem to have taken "judging silently" for a direct threat to round up their fuck/cuddle pillows and burn them in the village square.

No one wants to take your questionable choiced of waifu/husbando huggle material away.
