I want to visit Japan next year. Even if I have to do it by myself. It will be my first non North American trip and the idea is horrifying.

Do it, do it! If it's your first non-North American trip, it will sure be something, but trust me - Japan is one of the easiest places you could pick. Very tourist-friendly, in the major cities you'll find English on most signs, and the public transportation makes it really easy to navigate. Plus, it's super safe. And if you're a nerd or into history, or even just beautiful scenery, well, you'll find so much about it that makes you geek out.

The only rough thing about Japan is it's a long flight to get there from NA, and it's pretty expensive. So planning your vacation days (if applicable) and budgeting is a little more work. But you will totally have a great time if you do go.

If you have no one to go with and if you're nervous about traveling alone, you might consider joining a group tour? Japan's a pretty popular destination, you could join a group with your university or other various travel organizations.

I was looking at tickets and if I fly out of Dallas during a less popular month, I can get tickets for $700! I'd love to spend 10 days (at least) while there! I will start looking into it more. :)
