I wish this fanauthor who shared my taste in fic was wider-read. She’s an adult and English is her first language, but she writes and rewrites multiple drafts of each chapter of her fic because she thinks it’s badly done.

She wants to improve, but only wants to read original and fanfic that fits her very specific list of likes and dislikes, so she’s not picking up how good writing works from much of anywhere. She wants to publish original stuff someday, and she has the work ethic to do it, but she’s not gonna improve fast enough unless she reads more. A lot more.

But we’re not friends and it would be rude as fuck to butt in from nowhere with “you’re gonna suck as long as you write in a vacuum.”
