Yeah, I'm sure it happens, but personally 99% of the time I have seen people whipping out this claim it's over ships they don't like involving fictional characters or content they don't like, having nothing to do with real life gay men at all.

And the word fetishizing has lost it's originally meaning as well, now typically being used to mean 'find a particular thing attractive.' Finding gay men and relationships appealing and attractive does not automatically mean you are fetishizing them.
