The humor in Ragnarok is why I liked it and pretty much none other superhero movies. I also like Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. The other movies are too earnest.

Iron Man and GotG were able to use their drama without turning into farces.

Same, nonny!

It's been a long time since I saw Iron Man but I remember it being pretty earnest?

The plot was, but it was carried along by constant ad-lib quipping from all the major characters and some great physical comedy with Iron Man and his robots.

People who don't like it (but like other superhero movies) are incomprehensible to me

I don't need to be comprehended.

People dislike things you like. How is this hard to comprehend?

It's simple. People have different tastes. Some of us thought that Ragnarok was a terrible movie. We like other superhero movies because we thought they were better movies (especially Iron Man, Thor, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Infinity War, etc). *shrugs*

Oh, I liked it. As the Thor spoof it is. Now, where's the actual movie? It never got out.

Who is the man on the far right and the woman with glasses on the far left?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Man on the far right looks like Karl Urban.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-29 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Woman in glasses is the actress who played Topaz.

It's the only MCU film I've found to be honestly great, but then I guess it helps that it was the first one I ever saw.

I effing love Ragnaraok & I effing love Taika Waititi.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Loved Ragnarok!
No Tom Hiddleston in the pic though. Needs Loki to be complete :)

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Nice pic, but that was one boooring movie!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed watching Ragnarok and thought it had one of the better Thor fight scenes. I hated its treatment of the characters and the direction they were leading Thor into. It's not one way or the other.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it as a Taika Waititi movie, but a lot of it wasn't really congruent with the earlier two Thor movies. To me this is great, I would love to see more out-there takes on big shared universes! But I understand why people who don't get that kind of humour wouldn't like it.

This is me.

I also don't appreciate how it craps on the first two and as a result it encourages a lot of fans to do the same. Some of us liked Thor and his original supporting cast.

I didn't care for Ragnarok. It was funny and entertaining but I liked the more serious tone of the first two.

That being said, I find most of the serious superhero movies to be a little bit silly and generally I do prefer the ones who own up to their inherent campyness. But some do better than others at creating an interesting fantasy world.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-30 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I normally love humour in superhero films, but in this one it felt like they went a tiiiny bit over the top with slapstick and the lulz. I could do with more epicness and a bit less comedy, tbh. We have Guardians and Deadpool for comedy, after all, where it is natural and expected. From Thor, you kinda expect a slightly more serious tone.

Isn't that picture just edited though?
