Crunchyroll doesn't directly impact profits in the industry, but it's how most Americans get their anime now and if something is on CR, there's a higher chance of them watching a show and buying merchandise. And CR showing which shows are popular does have an impact on anime trends in Japan. It's you who underestimates the anime industry's interest in appealing to foreigners. They're trying. They WANT enough foreign fans that can have an impact, because anime is getting less popular in Japan and more popular overseas.

Crunchyroll literally pays publishers for their titles, so it does impact profits in the industry. OP is completely incorrect on that point.
