Only semi on-topic, but since this just happened today and this seems apropos:

Atheists who are so strongly atheist that it's just another form of dogma are every bit as bad as evangelizing theists. No, it doesn't make you look more intelligent or rational to call people's gods "invisible sky fairies", it makes you look mean and small-minded.

one of the atheists above and I agree entirely. I hate the whole "invisible sky daddy" line because while I may think it privately to myself sometimes, I also know that that's not quite how it works. it's condescending to the point of assholery on the part of the speaker while also fundamentally misunderstanding what they're actually objecting to.

"your invisible friend you treat like Santa Claus until things get really tough and then you panic" is a bit closer to the mark but still assholeish.
