Not going to lie, I am also suspicious of all her rolls now.

Butter or cinnamon rolls?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Dice. Scarjo cheats like a mofo.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see it.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She's definitely not woke, but she's still a talented performer, so I'll watch her for that. And also, she's hot as sin. Good lord.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree on her being hot. She looks like a generic Hollywood stereotype to me. Bland.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I find 99.99 percent of all big-name Hollywood actors bland-looking (male and female both) and ScarJo is part of the tiny minority I think are pretty hot. *shrug* YMMV

Besides Ghost in the Shell, what other roles of hers have been whitewashed?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
not secret op, but i'm glad you asked that. i looked her up and couldn't really find anything? and apparently after ghost in the shell she said she'd never accept whitewashed roles again and by all appearances hasn't

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, OP is right that it's "not totally fair."

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's not whitewashing, but she costarred in a movie about being a white foreigner in Japan (Lost in Translation) and some people think movies like that shouldn't be made because if you're going to make a movie about a nonwhite country, it should always be about the people who come from there and not white foreigners.

OP is probably also associating whitewashing with the fact that she almost had the role of a (debatably) trans historical figure, but that movie was dropped.

That's... not really dealing with the central argument there, I don't think

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
man, lost in translation was such a good movie, even if it had its head up its ass. it captured the feeling of being stranded somewhere where you don't speak language or understand customs so well, it super tripped me

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Not whitewashing but Lucy was like. Kinda racist? Despite starting being set in Hong Kong every Asian character is a gangster who ScarJo kills

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
She was next going to play a RL person who may or may not have identified as a trans man (it was the 70s) but was definitely a very butch person who looked nothing like ScarJo. One of those Oscar-baiting "ugly" roles where the whole joke is how transformed the attractive actor is.

Yup

And she got publicly shamed into not doing it so without any star power to sell the movie the studio pulled the plug and it never got made. Woke people doing better at the alt-rights gig than the actual alt-right.

Seriously, The Alt-right turn up to protest the film with their banners and their online campaigns, the movie people be like "This is great all the free publicity this film is gonna do great" and they fail to get the film shut down.

The woke crowd turn up with the same shit, but from the opposite direction and the film folds like superman on laundry day.

Just reminds me of the thing about how it it take less pressure to crack an egg from the inside than the outside.

I think she gets a lot of flak for this, while people forget about Emma Stone in Aloha.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really the same thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_(2015_film)#Whitewashing_controversy

The Media Action Network for Asian Americans accused the director and studio of whitewashing the cast, and Crowe apologized about Emma Stone being miscast as a character who is meant to be of one quarter Chinese and one quarter Hawaiian descent.[30][31][32]

In June 2015, Crowe responded to the backlash: "I have heard your words and your disappointment, and I offer you a heart-felt apology to all who felt this was an odd or misguided casting choice. As far back as 2007, Captain Allison Ng was written to be a super-proud one quarter Hawaiian who was frustrated that, by all outward appearances, she looked nothing like one. A half-Chinese father was meant to show the surprising mix of cultures often prevalent in Hawaii. Extremely proud of her unlikely heritage, she feels personally compelled to over-explain every chance she gets. The character was based on a real-life, red-headed local who did just that."[33][34]

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But why not get an actual mixed race actor?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So, the casting call should have been for a quarter-Hawaiian, quarter-Chinese, half-white actress who looks white and frustrated about it. Just say you don't think they should have made the movie and be done with it.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Your position is that no mixed-race actresses exist?

Also, The Descendants with George Clooney.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-03 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, but as you mentioned a dude doing it, f!s will suddenly become very bored with the topic.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I just can't stand her face in general. That stupid vacant look that's 98% of her facial expression. Ugh.
