I'm a huge romantic at heart, so I can't say I'm not always down for a good fictional romance. However, I do frequently find myself annoyed by canonical het romances because, IMO, they feel obligatory, by-the-numbers, and deeply uninspired about 90% of the time.

I can't say I really relate to your reasons for being kind of squicked by romantic plots involving women. For me, a romantic plot involving a female character isn't, in and of itself, squicky at all - it's how the romantic plot is handled that will determine whether it squicks me or not.

That said, I find the basic feeling of "There is this super common trope I don't really like and I CANNOT. GET. AWAY. FROM. IT. FFS. and at this point it feels like the world is trying to force it on me" to be very relatable.
