Weirdest Things You've Felt Apologetic About

(Anonymous) 2019-06-15 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
We stayed at two different hotels while travelling for business (super posh hotels because the company wooing us was paying for everything), and I had to call down and ask them to come change the mattress topper and duvet because it was all downfilled and I'm like... stop breathing levels of allergic.

I felt so bad for inconveniencing the housekeeping staff who came, but it never occurred to me to check with the hotel before getting there because I've never stayed anywhere that used actual down stuff.

Missing work when sick. Even though I have vacation days and it isn't on a super busy day.

I've had this problem with a hotel before. Only it was pillows and we'd already requested down-free pillows when we made the reservation. They gave us down ones anyways.

Wtf. Did they think you just requested it for shits and giggles? Luckily for me, both hotels were super sweet about it even as I was apologizing.

I'm not sure. This was when I was a kid and also was stop breathing allergic to down. I've thankfully grown out of that level of allergy, though down still makes me a bit sniffly and itchy.

I always have to turn down food if it didn't come straight out of a packet I can check. Food is such a social thing, and it's a very popular gift, so I always end up offending someone. The worst is when they try to accomodate me and say this one doesn't have (allergen) in it. I still can't eat it because if you cook with (allergen) it's in your kitchen and if even a bit of it made it into that food... yeah. Sucks. I always tell people in advance that I'll sort out my own food, so I feel like I shouldn't have to keep apologising for doing what I said I was going to do in the first place.

Another time when I was driving my friend's new car through a tricky gate because she was nervous she would hit one of the posts. She decided it would be funny to spin the volume on the radio up to maximum right as we were going through the gate. It hurt my ears and I flinched just enough to ding her car. I was sorry about her very expensive car, but I wasn't offering to pay for the cost of her prank.

Yep, food allergies. I feel your pain. I feel I have to apologize every time I'm offered something. Would you like a piece of this instead? No, thank you, I'm fine. How about this thing over here? No, really, I'm alright. But, surely, you can eat this thing? No. I'm terribly sorry to have inconvenienced you multiple times.

i was really physically sick and exhausted during the last theater performance i worked on with kids. i'm normally not so short with them but i had been having a rough (oh god. RoUGH) time and during warm up of like our third to last show i was asking the kids to start stretching and this boy snaps "what if i don't want to" in a super snarky way

and immediately without thinking about what i was saying i respond, calmly while still stretching, "well then it's a good thing i don't have to care what you want" adhkjfdhgdk

followed by etc about as a member of this cast you've agreed to be part of this production and listen to me as your stage manager and right now i am telling you to stretch! blah blah. a few kids laughed a little but it wasn't a huge deal. the boy who was being clever is a kid i have worked w a lot before and like i know he knows i don't hate him or anything. and as resilient children oft do, he moved on and didn't care about it fifteen minutes later (which i know bc i followed up with him after) BUT i still think about it and feel so bad?
