Oh that would have been ABYSMAL.

Gilliam might have been a good fit as a director, yes, but NEITHER actor was right, and honestly, a movie wouldn't have been as good as the series just because SO much would have to be cut out of it.

I love Robin Williams, but Robin Williams-in-a-comedic-role just isn't AZIRAPHALE, and the idea of casting an American in the role... It's not enough to be able to do a comedy British accent, Aziraphale strikes people as being so quintessentially English that it's remarkable even to actual Englishmen. Something Michael Sheen does a wonderful job of (as much as I delight to his Welsh accent)-- and he's loved the book and character for thirty years.
