i'm glad ppl are enjoying good omens and it was a fun show, but i really wish ppl would STOP trying to claim actual canon LGBT rep when it's 100% ambiguous. it's 2019 i'm over 'maaaaybe they're gay if u wanna read it that way' type 'rep', if they wanted them to be explicitly romantic they could have done so, but they didn't bc they still wanted attention from straight audiences, and i fucking WISH fandoms would stop praising this kind of writing as if it's 'oh so revolutionary'.

'omg their relationship is amazing they're like SO GAY!'
'is it actually gay tho?'
'well you can certainly read it that way if you want'
'siiiiiiiiiiiigh'

this isn't to say ppl can't ship them, fucking have at it, they're very shippable tbh, but i am 100% DONE with fandoms claiming rep in a thing that just ISN'T THERE bc it's frustrating as fuck to watch something expecting all this 'gay rep' and coming away with 'well you can easily read that as your a-typical bromance if you want, wtf is new about THAT?'.

Uh... they didn't make it explicit because it's pretty much just as ambiguous in the source material too.

AYRT I don't disagree that there are places where show runners should stop skirting around shit, and that things like GO's shouldn't be touted as representation, but I also think that this isn't a case of 'they should have made it explicit wah wah they were afraid'. There was nothing to make explicit. This is apples and oranges.

sa.

my ire is at fandom more than the creators, i'm aware that in the SM it's ambiguous as well, what i can't stand is fans acting like THAT is good enough to count as 'rep' when it's what we've been seeing wrt close-male friendships for decades.

enjoy it, it's a really fun show so i get the love, but miss me with praising the show for it as though it's done anything that a thousand other shows haven't.
