AU shouldn't mean out of character, though. The RP feels rather unsupervised and unorganized as a whole to me, and it's sadly turned me away from it.

That's true. The RP itself was born from a tegaki fad and thrown together rather quickly at first, so a good number of things still need ironing out.

It was quickly brought together, but it's been around for a while now.

It's cool that the RP is for fun and all, but it's pretty obvious some of the players have never even played the game their characters are from. (I wouldn't care if they were at least IC, but... they're not.)

I really don't expect my complaints to be heard, I'm not in the RP or anything but it's everywhere on Tegaki and sometimes I truly wonder what the appeal is.

I have to say, it appealed to me when it was a lot smaller. It's gotten bigger now and all the charm seems to be waning away. le sigh.

Really? I was always surprised by how many people actually HAVE played the games, like the F-Zero and Mother players.

A lot of members here read Fandom Secrets, I for one think outside opinions are valuable! Especially since they're unbiased.

As long as your in-character and are doing your best, what does it matter? It's just when you blatantly don't even TRY to incorporate the character's personality it can get really annoying. Why play the character if you don't care for them? It just seems this is common in this RP. The Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass cast in particular suffers from lack of characterization to me.

I'm kind of interested in which one. You don't have to say it here, but maybe you should put up a concrit post if you're scared you might be one of those? I mean, get some input from others on your characterization - there's nothing wrong with that and it can be strangely uplifting when working on a character ESPECIALLY if you like them a lot. :)

I'd prefer to be anonymous. Just list the basics of each PH/WW chara's rp suggestions.

Also, keep in mind that I am busy and I don't rp my chars often so sometimes the charas don't show well.

"You're busy" isn't an excuse to write a character crappy. It's an excuse for if you're not very -active-, but when it's fundamentally hurting your characterization of the character then maybe it's just you who's never even had a good grasp of the character in the first place.

Personally, the Linebeck is completely out of character. I have problems with almost all of the cast, but I think sometimes you just need to sit down and re-watch scenes every once in a while and ask yourself if YOUR version of the character is anything like the kind from the original canon.

If not, you might want to rethink your way of rping.

I don't hate how the RP works, I'm just offering suggestions on how to improve it. My gripes are obvious - the characters are obviously out-of-character. The excuses the mun is giving aren't justifications for it. It's perfectly fine to be busy with life, to not be able to play games and still want to RP someone - but do your research.

I understand that the RP is just for fun and kicks, that is perfectly fine! I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade, but if they want to improve (which, I'm assuming since they commented to my thread) then they need to start. There's a lot of improvement to be made. The character being portrayed is not the same one as from the game.

Have all the fun you want, I'm not here to stop that.

We really shouldn't take advice from people who don't like how we swing because that means it would be a slide at making you join!

You're absolutely right. You don't have to take it, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Again, it's not how you swing, it's just that the characterization suffers at times. This isn't an attack on any of you, continue to have fun and enjoy your RP. I only mean to disagree with a few points and offer suggestions for it.

I was hoping you would be a bit more understanding, I don't see what my interest in joining has anything to do with this in all honesty, but thank you for taking the time to read this.

I value all opinions in the end. Can't say we'll do much to better meet the expectations of Nintendo fans who want to see a certain "unf" from their favorite characters. This RP's appeal to some people is a lot like the appeal of drawing balloon-sized fat girls on DeviantArt, or Panther x Krystal stories on Fanfiction.Net's Starfox Archive. Much like that.

As for the forced drop. It really wasn't without reason. One character was inactivce for three months but was afraid to drop because "OMG NOO KAZOOIE-MUN'S GOING TO GET UPSET D:" And that cycle had to end.

The OTHER! That's a funny story! I personally hired a Banjo to go along with my Kazooie and was unhappy with my hiree's lack of performance which moot points the whole purpose of hiring a Banjo. She's happy with her other character so now it's time for me to start hiring a Banjo again and finally go about plans with him and Kazooie the way they as normally intentioned four months ago.

We've had several lurkers complain about what pairings become canon and about how muns play their characters. It's ridiculous, as the game is such a fun and carefree environment for those of us playing in it and some players get really upset when they learn that someone is not only watching them play but thinks badly of how they're doing it.

I don't care if you're a lurker or a former mun, we're not a perfect RP, not in the slightest, but we're enjoying ourselves and that's more then enough for us. Why shouldn't it be the same for you?

Critiques on Linebeck :
- He doesn't speak like a pirate. He's not a pirate at all. He's a man of the sea, a captain, a sailor.
- He doesn't drink alcohol, the game specifically speaks about him drinking milk at the milk bar. This may be a tongue-in-cheek deal with Zelda games, but that's what the canon provides.
- His relationship with Jolene is a bit strange compared to the game's.

I'm not here to say he has to have sexual relations of any kind. I'm not even sure if Smash Bros. allows that. I just am curious about his characterization overall, not what he does at night. Where was Linebeck taken from? Pre-game? Post-game? Has the player played the game? My impressions are that they haven't, by how they're RPing them.

All I'm saying is that maybe they may want to refresh their mind at how the character acts by going to youtube or checking gamefaqs to see if there's a script. That's what I do, I sometimes have to refresh my memory on stuff like that, it's hard to stay in character especially when you RP someone for a long time.

I am not a former player, I am only a lurker who's had interest in joining but find some things to need improvement. It's not the end of the world, ANYONE can improve! That's what I hope for! I totally wouldn't be here telling you otherwise if I just hated the player or something. I'm sure they're wonderfully nice people.

Yes, most of the characterizations I did for him was well, from a person who never played - not that I don't want to honestly - the game. I did some research, but obviously not enough. I actually saw SOME cutscenes and I know a lot of my stuff is WRONG...but...

I kept it. Just because I felt it fit (FFFF there goes all the IC PH fangirls to lynch me). Of course, that's my opinion, and I know almost all the rpers in sbg was pretty cool with it. ~~I'm glad I at least got the kid-hating part right I think~~

He was my first chara to app there and despite these fatal errors I guess, I still find him endearing. I was not shocked actually to hear you say "SBG Becky SUCKS" because I knew that.

Anyway...

TL;DR version: I'll take these suggestions in mind. Or drop him if I simply can't do much to modify his acc without making him sound like he has multiple personality disorder. ~~brb cliff~~

If you're happy playing him, that's all that matters. You may continue to play him, you may continue to ignore this, I don't mind. ♥ This is just RPing, it's not a big deal at all. Having fun is the most important thing.

I think you can fix a few things quite simply. If you choose to, just drop the pirate talk. He talks very arrogant and is selfish and self-centered but he's also a bit of a softy on the inside - you should focus on that side of his personality, it's rather endearing. :) I mean, when you're finally able to play the game, I'm sure this will be much easier for you. (As you've stated before, you don't get to play games often? That sucks!) The most glaring error is just the speech patterns he possesses, they're not consistent at all with his gruff to-the-point talk.

I wish for you to understand that I'm not saying he sucks horribly and I wish him and the player to die, I'm saying there is room for improvement and you shouldn't use excuses to cover up why they're not improving. I think he's a fun and great character, I think you can do better, you obviously (... I think?) love Zelda, so share your love with the world!

I can't speak for Linebeck-mun, and I admit, I haven't touched PH since if first came out, but your critiques are rather weak with only the first holding a great deal of merit that isn't just personal preference.

Milk will obviously be served at a Milk Bar. It's been around since.. fff, Majora's Mask? Or was it OoT? It's the closest thing Hyrule has to liquor, as a handful of characters are shown to get intoxicated after drinking it. Thus, it's not hard to believe that in a modern city, Linebeck would booze down.

As for his relationship with Jolene? I've already stated that we've had several lurkers complain about pairings and character CR. People are people, not everyone likes a pairing on the same level as another. Complaining about what relationships occur in canon is pointless as not everyone likes every thing.

I replayed Mother1 when I first joined, and reread the script for EarthBound when I picked up Pokey. I then went and used nothing but a game wiki for Tanaka. Not every character needs the mun to have encyclopaedical knowledge of their character and their back story though.

In fact, I'm betting a lot of players have never played the games their character is from.

Improvement is nice. There's a lot of things I'd like to see improved, such as more activity in class logs, and more interaction outside of a character's series.

BUT.

Improvement to appeal to a faceless mass isn't improvement at all. I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but we're doing well without it.

How can you attest my concerns are weak? You truly believe there is no valid point?

You keep inching back towards "relationships" which is not what I'm expressing dislike in. I'm expressing dislike in how they act towards each other. Linebeck is terrified of Jolene, and although they improve throughout the game, the way they act in the RP seems to contradict this.

I am not well versed in Zelda knowledge, but I still can't find the connection between Milk = Alcohol. It is the replacement in their world, but that doesn't mean that just because he likes milk he will also like alcohol over it- (there's no proof of it going either way, actually, but it's just a preference that it would be left as milk.)

If you're playing a character, you should probably just know at least basic information about the character. I'm not asking for an extensive term paper o them, just... the norms, as if you've played the game the character hails from.

You improve so you can better yourself. I suggested improvements, you're not the mun in question so they weren't addressed to you. I am not critical of the RP because I dislike it, I just wish to see it improve. That is not your agenda, so this isn't of any of my concern anymore.
