........i'm so confused. Parents forcing their kid to crossdress? Why? I mean - I can't see that happening *at all* in the 'real world', why was it used in a movie?

(I mean, outside of truly psychopathic adults.)

SPOILERS

It's a horror movie. The character in question is the killer and the fact the character is biologically male (and, presumably, traumatized by an abusive upbringing) is the twist ending.

Ah. Okay, then.

I dunno about real life, but "I'm A Boy" is a pretty.good song by The Who.

In the case of Sleepaway Camp, the main character loses her (his?) father and sister and is sent to live with his (her?) aunt, who already has a son and wanted a daughter.

I'm unsure of the pronouns because Angela is treated as a girl for the whole movie with a shock reveal at the end (the image from the secret) showing that she has a penis and the child who died in the accident at the start of the movie wasn't the boy but the girl.

Huh. I suppose Angela themself (??) doesn't come forth with a particular decision one way or another?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
No because it ends on the reveal. If you don't want to watch it and don't care about spoilers, GoodBadFlicks did a video on it. https://youtu.be/fResqNIMtfQ

Yeah, i won't be watching it, but i'll watch this. Thanks!

Nope. It's been some years since I watched the movie but I seem to recall that Angela was mute from the trauma for most (if not all) of it.

There were sequels, each of them worse than the last, and in those the character always presented as female as far as I remember, but I think that's mostly because they dropped the whole "Angela was a boy!" from the first one and just focused on the killings.

Omg. Of course they did. How stupid.

I think it's in the second movie where they mention that Angela transitioned while in therapy after the events of the first movie.

There was a troll secret a while back about a book by a guy whose grandmother forced him to crossdress. He now advocates against trans people because he thinks they’re perverts who force children to crossdress. Also, I think Edmund McMillen said the parents in The Binding of Isaac who force their son to crossdress as a replacement for their dead daughter were inspired by something in his extended family, although he didn’t go into detail about what exactly happened and how much his version is fictionalized.

Yurk.

I mean - yes, there are horrible, sick, twisted people out there who do horrible, sick things to their kids, but this wasn't one of the things that really seemed to happen *often*, considering how knee-jerk stupid most Americans are re: transgenderism.

Several serial killers were forced by family members to dress as girls as a shaming technique. Henry Lee Lucas being the most prominent.
