People should be able to

W H A T T H E F U C K I S S T O P P I N G T H E M

Unless you meant to say "people should be able to air out their criticisms without getting criticized in return" in which case lol no, that's not how life works.

NAYRT - people should be able to civilly air out their criticisms without being attacked for it. Criticizing their criticisms is fine, but if they're being civil and the response is "fuck you and your anti bullshit, you're a bully, people like you are scum," then that's fucked up.

You seem sorely misled about how the internet works.

If your argument is just that internet discourse is unreasonable and constantly full of shit and there's nothing one can do about it, doesn't that cut just as much against secret!OP?

I don't see a lot of people getting called anti's for being civil and non-judgmental. I'm sure it happens, but I can't believe it happens as often as people getting told they're pedos because of their ships.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-05 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
They should be able to do that, but they should also not put that stuff in the main tags.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-05 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, I see your point. I think the line I'm trying to draw is, if someone is responding to a critique based on the content of that critique, obviously that's fine and totally above board. Either side might be right or wrong on the merits, that's just how arguments work.

But I think there's a specific kind of response to criticism that attacks it for being criticism, not for the content of what is being said. And that's something that I think can become a problem, especially when people respond to content-full criticism as though it were harassment. People should be able to air out their criticism or point of view without being unreasonably attacked for it, just like fans should be able to do fandom without being unreasonably attacked by it.

That's exactly what I mean when I say live and let live. Thank you.
