I don't know if it's baby talk necessarily, but my tone definitely changes with animals. Funnily, I talk to infants/babies like they're small and mute adults.

Yup same with me. I think it is because even infants can have some grasping of some words. Animals mostly are grasping tone. And I want to come across as completely non-threatening and loving to animals. A soft baby-ish tone conveys that.
